 Trash and Recycling

TRASH PICK UP is on MONDAYS

Including holidays unless otherwise advised.

Bonnet Trash Cart Program:

August 2008

Guidelines:

  • Only trash inside the Bonnet supplied cart will be emptied 8/25/08 onward. No other trash cans will be emptied and no items outside the cart will be picked up.
  • Every listed property with a house received one cart free of charge. A  2nd cart can be ordered by the District Manager for you. (401-789-4540). A maximum of two carts per listed property. Delivery of additional carts now estimated at late September. As of 9/12/08, 64 gallon carts cost $68, 32 gallon carts cost $64.
  • In order for the Trash Contractor to properly use the automated dumping system the trash carts MUST BE:
  •     - Eight (8) feet from any obstacle (Poles, mail boxes, cars, etc.)
  •     - Within two feet of the curbside
  •     - Two feet from any other obstacle (Other trash cart, recycling bins, etc.)
  •     - Placed with the lid side facing the road, as noted on the top of the lid.

Carts not placed properly may not be emptied !!!

  • NO TVs, COMPUTERS, MONITORS, APPLIANCES, MATTRESSES OR BULKY ITEMS FOR REGULAR PICK-UP.
These items REQUIRE SPECIAL handling AND WILL NOT BE REMOVED.

Missing/Stolen Trash Carts:

  • Please call the community center to report stolen or missing carts. Each cart has a serial number that has been recorded to a specific house number. The Fire District will report all stolen carts to the Narragansett police.

Recycling:

  • Every household should be recycling.  Bottles and cans in one container, paper goods in another (note: paper goods with food stains or otherwise contaminated are not recyclable). For a list of what can be recycled please see below. When properly recycling a household of four should only need one 64 gallon trash cart.

  • With the States current economic woes Rhode Island Resource Recovery can give no time line as to when grant money will be released to the Town of Narragansett for the promised 64 gallon recycling carts.

The Fire District has decided to stock both Green (Paper) and Blue (bottles & cans) bins at the Community Center in the meantime. Bins can be purchased, Green $10, Blue $8,. by contacting the District Manager and arranging a pick up time. It is advisable that you mark your street address on the bins with a permanent marker.

Thank you again for your patience. In the long run we will be rewarded with a much cleaner Fire District.
