Beach/Pond Committee Report

                                                                             10/18/06

  1. Beach Update:
    1. Coordinating water shut off and seasonal meter removal for both Kelly Beach and Little Beach.
    2. A small group of us met with Marine surveyor Joe Fercellia to explore surveying mean high tide at Kelly Beach.  After much discussion I am recommending we do not survey Kelly Beach for the following reasons:

                                                               i.      In all likelihood we will be greatly disappointed with final outcome.

ii.      Managing the mean high tide delineation will be problematic.

iii.      Although his quote of $1500 for surveying our beach to the rocks was reasonable, I would still recommend we use this money other projects.

  1. Pond Update:
    1. Frank has been working closely with Mr. Barber to dredge open the area between Kelly Beach and the pond for October Herring run. We at the same time would like to coordinate Mr. Barber’s time and effort to clean out various culverts between causeway and Lake Road .
    2. We have contacted Coastal and have applied for the 2006/2007 “Request for Pre-Proposals”.  I would like to recognize Bill Dickerson for his time and effort and ask him to report to the council on his findings and next steps.
  1. Boat Storage:
    1. We are still waiting on final approval or disapproval from the BSBC.
  1. Community Center Study:
    1. As mentioned at our last meeting, we have sent out three “Request for Proposals” for our community center study.  I followed up last week with all three firms and Newport Collaborative has expressed their desire not to quote on the project.  We are awaiting quotes form Calson Corporation as well as Robinson Green and Beretta.
    2. I would like to meet as a committee to start the internal process of identifying current and future usage and create an internal and general consensus of how best our community center can service the needs of the BSFD residents. I would like to suggest this first meeting be held  9 AM Saturday, November 4., here at the Community Center.
